II · Horses: finding, placing, selling

The right horse, placed with care

Most of what we do with horses comes down to one thing: putting the right horse with the right person, and standing behind the match. Jillian does it two ways, and both start with a conversation.

For riders and families

Find Your Horse

Tell Jillian who is riding, what you hope to do, and what you are comfortable spending. She searches her network across the West, her own horses and others, and brings you horses worth your time. She helps you see them, ride them and weigh them, and she is on your side of the table.

  • Search matched to the rider, not the listing
  • Her own horses and horses from trusted contacts
  • Trial rides, honest feedback, help with the paperwork
  • Lease or purchase

The Sales Barn

A very good horse comes to Bay Light Farm for the full treatment: a quality stall, daily turnout, attentive care and training to keep the horse tuned, sound and ready. Jillian shows the horse personally to qualified buyers and markets it herself, so each horse is presented as it deserves.

  • Full care and a ready, rideable horse
  • Prospect visits and trial rides, scheduled by Jillian
  • Personal marketing across the West
  • One point of contact, start to finish

Buyers travel to us, and we travel to meet the right buyer. Sales horses are kept sale-ready and are not part of the regular lesson program, which protects the horse and the sale.

Jillian Leighty

I have spent my life around horses, and I teach the way I wish I had been taught: clearly, patiently, and with an eye for the details.

More than twenty years of riding, competition and horse care sit behind every lesson I give. I teach children and adults, from a first ride to jumping courses, and I train hunters and jumpers, with basic dressage, colt starting and problem horses in the mix.

I match riders with horses we know well, because we have trained and ridden them ourselves. I coach riders at schooling shows and rated competitions, and I care as much about the barn they come home to as the ribbons they win.

Away from the arena, my life is the farm and the people on it. Our two kids grow up here, learning horses, caring for animals, running a small business and fixing a big property alongside me, and they are the reason I do any of this. At home there are five dogs I adore, and Friday, the horse who has my heart.

Behind the scenes I helped build Second Rein Solutions, bringing the same calm organization to other barns. I run Bay Light Farm here in Newberg, where we also support Oregon Horse Haven, our equine rescue.
